Minimally Invasive Therapy: A 12-Year Breast Cancer Survivor’s Story
Choosing the right cancer treatment from the very start matters enormously, since some therapies carry side effects that cannot be undone. For breast cancer patients in particular, making the correct treatment decision early on can be the deciding factor in long-term survival.
An Unexpected Diagnosis
Carina, a patient from Indonesia, discovered a lump in her right breast in October 2007. A local hospital confirmed the diagnosis: breast cancer. She underwent surgery followed by a course of chemotherapy.
The chemotherapy took a heavy toll on her body, but the harder blow came in 2008, when the combined treatment she had received proved unable to keep the disease at bay. Her cancer returned, this time spreading to her pelvic region, which meant she needed to undergo a second operation.
Anxious about what this recurrence might mean for her future, Carina found herself back in Indonesia facing the same limited set of options — another round of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Finding Hope Through Minimally Invasive Treatment
Rather than accept a repeat of the same treatment path, Carina began looking into overseas options for cancer care. The prospect of a second surgery weighed heavily on her, and the more she researched, the more that anxiety grew.
Her search eventually led her to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, a facility offering a range of 18 different minimally invasive treatment techniques. Without hesitation, she made the decision to travel to China for treatment.

After reviewing her medical history, the oncology team at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou selected a natural therapy approach designed to lower the risk of recurrence while improving her overall quality of life and extending survival. Notably, this approach produced no adverse side effects for Carina — only steady improvement in her condition.
To strengthen the treatment outcome further, her medical team combined Traditional Chinese Medicine with minimally invasive therapy. As her attending physician explained, cancer is a difficult disease to treat, which is why doctors typically design a comprehensive, multi-pronged treatment plan tailored to each patient’s specific situation. Following this combined approach, Carina’s condition steadily improved, and the metastatic tumor was successfully removed and brought under control.
Twelve Years and Still Thriving
More than a decade after her diagnosis, Carina has built a full life alongside her illness — so much so that she says she sometimes forgets she is a cancer patient at all. She has focused her energy on both her business and her family, striving to be a devoted wife and mother throughout her recovery.
She regularly participates in events hosted by the Surabaya branch office of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, where she shares her personal journey and offers encouragement to others currently battling cancer.
Reflecting on the span from 2007 to 2019 — from an advanced-stage cancer patient to a long-term survivor — Carina holds onto one central lesson:
- Cancer can be overcome with the right mindset and treatment approach
- Staying positive plays a critical role in fighting the disease
- Choosing appropriate, timely treatment is essential to a successful outcome
In her own words, she hopes other cancer patients can find the treatment path that works for them and move forward with their lives, adding that everyone facing this disease is fighting the battle together.
