Eight Years of Life Beyond Cancer: A Minimally Invasive Therapy Success Story
An Unexpected Diagnosis Changes Everything
My life took an abrupt turn in October 2016 when routine medical screening revealed something I never anticipated: cervical cancer at an early stage. As someone who prioritized fitness and maintained disciplined daily habits, the diagnosis felt unreal, catching me completely unprepared. Fear and uncertainty flooded in, yet I clung to the belief that a solution existed.

My local physicians strongly recommended immediate surgical intervention to halt disease progression. However, I had already committed to participating in a marathon in Cuba and decided to delay treatment until after the event. When I underwent additional testing in Singapore following the race, the findings shocked me—the condition had advanced to stage IV. The medical team advocated for chemotherapy, but I was deeply concerned about how the intense side effects would compromise my ability to maintain an active, independent lifestyle. I refused that treatment approach and returned to Indonesia to pursue alternative options.
Discovering a Path Forward Through Technology
Working in the Internet technology sector shaped how I approached this crisis. I became convinced that cutting-edge medical innovations existed to treat cancer more effectively than conventional methods. My online research eventually led me to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, and their information about precision-targeted minimally invasive approaches felt like finding a lifeline.
In December 2016, I arrived filled with hope, but the comprehensive evaluation revealed sobering news. The malignancy had progressed significantly—the mass measured approximately 6.2 centimeters by 3.7 centimeters and had metastasized to multiple organs including the rectum, liver, and bladder. The multidisciplinary medical team designed a treatment strategy combining interventional techniques with immune-boosting natural therapies.

The transformation began immediately. After completing the first treatment phase, I noticed both physical and psychological improvements. During recovery, I spent time hiking at Baiyun Mountain, gradually building strength—starting with modest paths and eventually summiting challenging peaks. The genuine compassion and attentive care from the medical staff made the journey far more manageable than expected.
The Moment Everything Changed
My June 2017 follow-up appointment brought extraordinary news. The imaging studies demonstrated that cancerous cell activity had nearly vanished entirely, and all lab values had returned to normal ranges. The medical team’s joy matched my own relief and gratitude.

What moved me most deeply occurred during that same visit. The nursing and medical staff had prepared a birthday celebration with cake and special foods. When they gathered around singing, I experienced a moment of pure happiness and blessing that crystallized how profoundly this place and these people had transformed my survival.

Reclaiming Life: Discovering the Person I Became
Reborn as a Culinary Artist
Before my diagnosis, professional demands consumed my time, leaving no space for cooking or truly experiencing life’s pleasures. The illness fundamentally shifted my perspective on what truly matters—health and presence became paramount. During hospitalization, I began preparing nutritious meals in the hospital kitchen, discovering an unexpected passion.
By May 2017, I was well enough to attend a culinary course in Bali taught by a Japanese master chef. Completing the professional certification felt surreal to the classmates who learned of my Stage IV history. The same hands that worried about survival were now creating nourishing, beautiful food.

An Athlete’s Return to Adventure
My deepest joy comes from nature and active exploration—traveling, climbing, diving, and testing my body’s capabilities. Cancer became an unexpected chapter in my life’s adventure, one that paradoxically elevated my appreciation for every moment. The hospital gave me the opportunity to be reborn, to continue living expansively.
In March 2018, fifteen months after stepping into new life, I achieved my most ambitious goal: completing a 42-kilometer marathon in the Himalayan mountains. The altitude and thin air created extreme physical demands, yet with each kilometer, I thought of fellow cancer patients. Every step represented my dedication to them, my silent prayer that they find the courage to fight and succeed as I had.

Becoming a Beacon for Others
Survivor and Advocate
Seven years of health and normalcy passed. In October 2023, I returned to the Jakarta office of St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou to participate in a survivors’ gathering. Standing before other patients and medical professionals, I shared my transformation story, emphasizing that cancer taught me the profound meaning of living intentionally. I committed to channeling my recovery into helping others access excellent treatment and achieve their own victories.

Gratitude Made Tangible
In November 2023, I returned to Guangzhou for the “Long Years Fighting Cancer, Warmth in Modern Cancer Hospital” anti-cancer stars homecoming program. My primary goal was to reconnect with the medical personnel who had gifted me a second life, particularly nurse Lili, whose patience and encouragement during my darkest moments had been transformative.
To express my deepest gratitude, I presented her with something I considered my greatest achievement—my Himalayan Marathon medal. That gesture encapsulated all the hope, sweat, and determination that the entire team had planted within me.

Extending the Gift Through Writing and Service
The hospital’s medical expertise restored my body, but the experience awakened a deeper calling. I channeled my recovery into authorship, publishing a book that explores life’s challenges and demonstrates how optimism can reshape difficult circumstances. The work, titled “Masterpiece in the Making,” invites readers to witness transformation through resilience.
Beyond writing, I’ve maintained active charity work, especially during times of crisis. I wanted the blessing I received to circulate continuously from my hands into the community.

A Message to Those Still Fighting
Each person harbors a greater version of themselves within. When we dare to confront our challenges—whether cancer or any seemingly insurmountable obstacle—we unlock the strength to overcome them. To anyone currently struggling with cancer or life’s hardships: never surrender hope. Face your challenge with courage. You are stronger than you believe.
